Birthday card class at Sovereign

I taught a wonderful group of ladies last night at Sovereign in Takapuna. My friend Nova works there and thought it would be a lovely way to get her work mates together for something fun!
She thought birthday cards would go down well (and they did) so we made both a girly card and a male one.
I tried to keep it pretty simple with not to many layers or difficult techniques. I wasn't sure who out of the group of 10 had done any cardmaking before. As it was they all did very well!

Here is the girl card - nice for a girlfriend or your mum!

The black and Yellow together is so striking and I also had a sample in Grey and Pink which two of the girls decided to replicate. I'll take a photo and add it here soon.

Supplies: Stamps -Artistic Etchings, All a Flutter, On Your Birthday. Cardstock - Whisper White and Daffodil Delight. DSP - Neutrals paper stack. Ink - Basic Black and a Versamarker pen for the sentiment. Ribbon - Daffodil Delight. Other - Black Embossing Powder, Heat tool, 2 way glue pen, dazzling diamonds.

Card number 2 was a great one for the boys. I think they liked making this one best - there was no bow tying!

 

Supplies: Stamps - Grunge Rock. Cardstock - Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Confetti White. Ink - Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Soft Suede. Other - Dimensionals, Scallop Edge Punch, 1 3/8 circle punch, basic Rhinestones.

I observed my 2 minutes silence for Christchurch yesterday and are still thinking of how powerless we all are when Nature decides to strike. There are lots of ways to help, money being the most in demand and there are several auction sites running where you can buy handmade items that have been donated to support Christchurch. One is Foxes and the other is Handmade for Christchurch. There are plenty more and if you want to give a shout out to any you know of please do so in the comments.

Weekend Creativity

Gosh the weeks are flying by. I mean to post something new on here everyday but it seems that before I know it the day is over!
I have been making things...and teaching.. so have a bit to share over the next few posts.

Friday night was a fun evening at Jo's. Crafting for her and her mum Gillian's birthday. I taught them a birthday card with a detachable bookmark. I'm all about cards with bookmarks at the moment, must be all the reading I've been doing! I've just finished the Hunger Games series - truly brilliant, I loved every moment!

Anyway here's the card I taught at Jo's:

I took the colours and basic idea from page 8 of the Summer Mini Catalogue and adapted it to use the Friends 24/7 stamp set.

More Birthday Rock

A friend on Facebook commented that it's always great to see ideas for male cards because that is where a lot of people get stuck. Since I still had Grunge Rock out from yesterdays card, I thought I'd have another play.
So Nicola this one is for you!

All my favourite techniques on this card - tons of distressing, inking, background stamping, knot tying, fussy cutting, pop dotting goodness! Phew it was fun!
Colours are Confetti White, Pear Pizazz, Marina Mist, Chocolate Chip.

Right must go make dinner!

Grunge Rock Birthday

Hi All,

Just popping in very quickly with a new card I made on the weekend. Today has gone so fast and I need to head up to School shortly!

After the Owl card last week I decided to try another Clean and Simple card using stamps from the same set (Grunge Rock) to create a layered look . I really like this effect and it takes next to no time!

I've heat embossed half the Versamark background (on the left) with clear embossing powder, stamped the No.1 and rock crown in Sahara Sand, Happy Birthday in Soft Suede and the guitar twice in Real Red. Once on the card and once on a scrap piece cutting it out and popping it up on top of the other guitar. Add a Rock and Roll Rhinestone and call it done!

This morning I made a little banner for our front door to surprise Dave when he gets home from work. I didn't want Valentines Day to go unnoticed again this year!

A belated birthday card

Hi, I'm not feeling quite so perky today - must need to pull out that Yoga mat and get stretching! It certainly gave me more energy yesterday.

I did however finish a card this morning!

It was a good friends birthday last Friday and since I'll be seeing her tomorrow night at Stamp Club I thought I better get cracking on a belated birthday card!

Woah right, Orange?? Not my usual colour choice here but I'm pushing some personal boundaries. I was looking at the card on the cover of the Sale-a-bration catalogue and decided to use Elements of Style instead of Bliss and the In Colours Peach Parfait and Pear Pizzazz. I really love the way this has come out.
Any thoughts?

Perfect Plum Birthday

I love purple but I've always found it a difficult colour to use creatively. So I set myself a little challenge to use a Perfect Plum Ink pad that had been sitting in my drawer untouched for too long!
Here's the result:

Patterned Paper: Subtles Paper Stack, Newsprint DSP
Stamps: Apple Blossoms (Hostess), On your Birthday
Ink: Perfect Plum, Wild Wasabi, Basic Grey.
Punches: Word Window, Scallop Square
Other: WW 1/4 inch grograin ribbon, Rhinestone, Dimensional dots.

Butterfly case

It's the first day of the school holidays and we actually have some sunshine! I can't believe it but I've actually been able to make a card while my littlest was asleep and the older two colour and play outside.

I saved this card to my case folder a few days ago knowing that I would HAVE to recreate it at some point. It's a card by Jo Eades who is on the Just add ink design team. I made a few subtle changes to mine to substitute products that I didn't have.

Where she used Newsprint DSP, I used the music wheel which is fast becoming a firm favourite of mine.
I also think my base might be a different colour - I've used Crumb Cake and stamped it in Versamark with a script background stamp.

Wow, where do the days go?

I was hoping to blog everyday but since my class on Wednesday night, I've been going flat tack!

The class went really well, everyone loved the cards and there were orders placed that night and the following day plus 3 of the ladies are keen to host their own classes!

The last couple of days I have spent organising my sister -in-law's engagement party invitations as she and some girlfreinds are coming over tonight to assemble them. I will share a picture of those in the next few days but in the meantime I'll show you the cards Mum got for her birthday. Dad chose to give her the red one and we gave the purple. I just love that baroque pattern from Friends 24/7.
